Water entering the chamber must enter at slow speeds as not to disturb settled debris. If the brushes are used only as a mechanical filtration, they can be take out and cleaned under a high pressure hose to wash of all the waste or if used as biological filtration, wash only with pond water and do not allow them to dry, as the bacteria colony will be affected if washed with chlorine water or if they are left out of water.
