A Foam Fractionator is used for the removal of chemicals that are in solution. The Koi hobbyist will be especially interested in removing Dissolved Organic Carbon (D.O.C) and excess protein molecules from the pond water.

Protein molecules are polarized by nature and are hydrophotric (don’t like water). By introducing a stream of air bubbles into the Fractionator tube, we provide the right condition (air/water interface) for the protein and D.O.C molecules to adhere to. The repelled end will attach itself to the air bubbles and will then rise to the surface where they burst. They will then form a foam in the collection chamber
where they distill and are ducted to waste.

The D.O.C and protein free water is then returned to the pond via gravity feed. The added benefit of the venturi in the Fractionator is that the oxygen rich water which enters the pond and enhances the Bio mass. D.O.C and excess protein can be seen in the pond as a white foam or skum that developes on the surface. It is often found around waterfalls or where the water is aggravated.

In the past it has been difficult to fractionate a Koi pond because of the lack of commercial items on the market, but now by fitting an Ultra Zap fractionator to your pond you will create a healthier environment for your Koi.

Installation Instructions.

The unit must be installed on a pressure return line to your pond, with a flow rate of between 80 – 100 l/m. The 50 mm return is a gravity feed and must remain level with the 25mm venturi inlet as not to cause a siphon effect. Do not restrict this outlet. The ball valve on the inlet is used to control the height of the water in the reaction chamber, which should be just above the inlet.
